End of term activities

End of Autumn Term Games morning and lunch

At the end of the Autumn Term we had fun with board games and lunch for the learners and ESOL teaching team. The games included: Scrabble, Pictionary, words games and quizzes. Learners were in groups and helped each other learn new words and practise spelling; best Scrabble word was "jinx" on a double word score! Everyone is taking the games quite seriously in these photos, but actually we were all talking a great deal and having a good time! At lunch time we all felt much more relaxed and enjoyed a break. We had a delicious lunch provided by Chesterton Community College which comprised sandwiches, wraps, pizza, snacks, cakes, and fruit as well as plenty of tea and coffee! John had arranged a Christmas quiz in which we had to guess where we might see local signs: "No smoking", "Closing down sale", "Parking suspended" - it was great fun and we were all trying to decide on the best answers!
Our event ended with us all singing "We wish you a merry Christmas" and sharing good wishes and farewells until next term.

End of Autumn Term Coffee and Cake - at Tishka

We all enjoyed going to Tishka café on Chesterton Road for Coffee, cake and chat on Tuesday 20th November. We enjoyed coffee, latte, hot chocolate, and teas of various flavours. There was a great variety of food to eat: salad, sandwiches, cakes and biscuits and hot meals - most of us chose one of the delicious cakes.  It was a cold day but the café was warm, cosy and welcoming.
20 of the ESOL group including learners from all the classes and tutors talked about all different topics: our different driving licences, where we come from, Christmas plans, families and our homes; it was really interesting to find out more about each other and share our thoughts about things which are important to us.

Thanks to Sandrine and her husband for providing some great food and a wonderful atmosphere- try it for yourself!

End of Autumn Term - shared food!

We had a lovely selection of food, some bought and some home made, on Friday November 16th at ESOL café. We were talking about adjectives that describe food, saying which food we liked and disliked, and trying some new snacks which learners and the ESOL team had brought in. Here is some Turkish, French, Polish, Japanese, Scottish and British food we enjoyed!

End of Summer Term Lunch - at Stem and Glory

End of Term lunch at Stem and Glory café in Cambridge
We had a lovely lunch at the end of July with our learners and volunteers at the new vegan café - Stem and Glory. Our group comprised 25 people who enjoyed the tasty main meals, delicious drinks and coffee and tea in a relaxed atmosphere. The café is modern and friendly with a "cool" feel and the service was efficient and helpful. If you are interested in trying this restaurant just see the link: https://www.stemandglory.uk
We enjoyed our lunch and talked about the wonderful term we had had as well as saying farewell to some of our classmates who were returning to their countries. As you can see, there were a lot of smiley faces and a happy time was had by all!

Looking forward to starting our new term on Friday September 14th!
